A shared mission, different expertise

Direct experience has taught us that a safe space alone is not enough. Knowledge of animals, attention to habitats, resources and people able to ensure continuity of care are essential. Dialogue between those working in the field and those who know the local area can turn a shared intention into a concrete project.

We seek people and organisations with whom to identify real needs and opportunities for action: not simply a name alongside ours, but a meaningful contribution to animal protection and a culture of respect.

Who we would like to build this dialogue with

Municipalities and public bodies can discuss local needs and the conditions required for lasting protection projects with the Foundation. Available land can be a starting point, but must be assessed alongside long-term management, expertise and resources.

Universities, research centres and professionals can offer knowledge, observations and studies that improve care, environmental design and the quality of public education. Any activity must be defined with respect for animals and the responsibilities of those involved.

Foundations, associations and educational organisations can contribute through shared initiatives, learning programmes and networks of expertise. Businesses, too, can support the project with technical skills, materials or financial contributions consistent with the Foundation’s values.

Where collaboration can make a difference

Habitats and continuity of care. Compare solutions for spaces, shelters, water, vegetation and daily organisation, bringing animal welfare and sustainable management together.

Knowledge and education. Develop educational initiatives for adults, families and communities, helping people understand that keeping an animal entails long-term responsibilities. Our editorial websites are one way we nurture this awareness.

Expertise and resources. Assess professional, design and material contributions towards defined objectives, with clear roles and attention to maintenance and continuity as well as initial construction.

Local dialogue. Connect experiences and needs, fostering constructive discussion among citizens, organisations and institutions. Animal protection is the starting point and the criterion for assessing every proposal.

The Sanctuary: an experience to share, not to copy

The Pilot Sanctuary draws on more than forty years of direct experience with tortoises and has been evolving for around ten years. This experience guides the new Ethical Sanctuary project and provides a concrete foundation of observations, tried solutions and questions still to explore.

The prospect is to develop a replicable model, adaptable to different settings. This does not mean transferring an identical plan from one place to another: environment, species, available expertise, responsibilities and resources require specific assessment. Any possible development elsewhere must have solid foundations and management capable of lasting.

From a first idea to a shared proposal

1. We listen to the context. Tell us about the organisation you represent, the need you have identified and the contribution you envisage. A construction-ready project is not needed to begin.

2. We focus on an objective. We assess alignment with the mission and the areas where further discussion could help, involving the necessary specialist expertise where appropriate.

3. We define conditions and responsibilities. If there is a basis for proceeding, activities, roles, resources, timing and checks are clarified. Any agreements and authorisations follow the relevant procedures: initial contact does not replace them.

4. We learn from results. Useful collaboration includes opportunities to discuss what works and what needs improvement. Care is not an unchanging solution: it requires observation and willingness to evolve.

Transparency, respect and practical action

This page is an invitation to dialogue, not a list of active partnerships. Names, logos and joint initiatives are communicated only once the relationship and how it will be presented have been agreed.

Institutional dialogue can grow through discussion, documentation and shared proposals. To preserve the animals’ peace, Sanctuary visits are not currently planned; collaboration does not imply automatic access or admission of animals. We are also studying an audiovisual system to share selected moments of their lives remotely, protecting the privacy of people and the location.

Every collaboration begins with a conversation

If you represent an institution or organisation, or would like to contribute expertise, tell us about your proposal. In the form, describe your organisation, the topic, your possible contribution and any relevant timeframe. Even an initial idea, clearly explained, can open a useful conversation.

We will use the contact details you provide to reply and, where necessary, ask for further information. Do not include coordinates, confidential plans or third-party personal data in your first message. No documentation needs to be attached: we will agree together on any materials required.
